MULTITOUCH FOR TEAMS DESIGN-CHICAGO | 2010

Description of Work

This zero-force multitouch wall was commissioned by TEAMS Design Chicago.

Utilizing (4) 780nm 25mw laser modules and a low-cost web cam modified to capture solely infrared (IR) light, this system transformed an existing frosted glass conference room wall into an inexpensive, multi-user interface. The IR laser light is projected in a perpendicular plane slightly above the glass surface--users occlude the light with each touch, which is tracked and processed into touch events via software.

Industrial designers at TEAMS Design are able to use the multitouch surface to sketch, paint and perform any gesture normally accomplished with a mouse.
