INSTRUMENTS OF MATERIAL POETRY
Description of Work
This project was commissioned by Shawn Brixey to recreate his piece Instruments of Material Poetry through computer graphics and animation in Autodesk Maya. Instruments of Material Poetry is a sculptural device that utilizes radiation pressure (the kinetic momentum of photons) from a 50 million candlepower white light (xenon) source and constructs an alternative gravitational system that levitates and animates microscopic poetic events in a vacuum chamber.More information about "Instruments of Material Poetry" here
Process
The first stage of the project involved shooting a series of technical photographs of various components of the piece, e.g. optical engines, mirrors and condensers. The second stage of the process was to model each component to exact scale, including lenses, micrometers and associated hardware (bolts, washers and bushings).
